Aerosmith started up in New Hampshire in 1970. The band got a record deal with Columbia Records and in 1973, their first album, titled Aerosmith, was released. Their biggest hit on that album, "Dream On" (which is quite possibly Aerosmith's best known song and biggest hit ever) only reached #56 on the charts. However, in 1975, their best album, Toys in the Attic, was released. It contained the hits "Sweet Emotion" (#36) and "Walk this Way" (#10). People started to like Aerosmith, but Aerosmith started to crash. Steven and Joe were too addicted to drugs (they were known as the Toxic Twins) and in 1979, Joe left the band to go solo. The next two years were rough. Steven got injured in a motorcycle accident in 1980 and Brad left the band the very next year. The future looked bleak for Aerosmith, and there was no hope for a comeback....
If after reading this you thought Aerosmith was done after this downfall, THINK AGAIN!!! In 1984, Joe and Brad came back, Aerosmith went on a "Back in the Saddle" tour, Joe and Steven became sober, and the group went back to writing new music. In 1986, they joined Geffen Records and released Done With Mirrors. But it was a hip-hop group, Run-DMC, that put Aerosmith back on track with a cover (remake) of "Walk This Way" featuring Steven and Joe that reached #4 on the charts.
Aerosmith continued to shine in their continued resurrection. They produced albums such as Permanent Vacation, Pump, Get a Grip (#1), and Just Push Play. Their hits during this time included "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)", "Rag Doll" (#17), "Angel" (#3), "Love in an Elevator" (#5), "Livin' on the Edge" (#18), "Cryin'" (#12), "Crazy" (#17), "Pink" (#29), and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (#1). "Crazy" won MTV's Best Music Video of the Year in 1993. Aerosmith still wasn't done. In 2001, they performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show with 'NSync, Nelly, Britney Spears, and Mary J. Blige. That same year, they were inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Now, Steven is a judge on "American Idol", the band has completed its resurrection, but Aerosmith still lives on.
